The master and world-wide acknowledged dancer I Made Djimat, brings a unique and varied program to Europe. The 6 dancers and the 8 very skilled musicians will present the most important and fascinating solo's and duo's dances of Bali. Acknowledged since many years as the best Topeng (masks) dancer, I Made Djimat will present the Topeng Pajegan, the most ritual form of Topeng in which one dancer changes swiftly masks and interprets up to 10 characters.
The Legong Kraton, the most classical of the female dances, will tell the story of the Prince of Lasem, in his desperate attempt to win the love of a Princess.
The Baris, the warrior dance which is the most powerful of the male dances. Baris is a ritual initiation dance for the younger male and it means literally “line”, referring to the lines of warriors defending the Hindus kings of Java, fleeing the island from the Muslim invasion.
The Kebyar Teruna Jaya, is a dance created in the ‘30s when the Kebyar style music took over the island of Bali by storm. Teruna (meaning young) Djaya (meaning strong) has no story line, but showing the virtuosity and dynamism of the dancer. A Kebyar dancer is known for having to be very skillful, because the dance movements are swift and demanding, and he must be an accomplished musician as well, in order to follow the complicated patterns of the music.
