The Radentai Koto Quartet was formed in 1997 by Ai Kajigano, Azumi Yamano, Mayuko Kobayashi and Shin Ichikawa. They all started playing Koto from their childhood under the influences of their family and began studying as professional with Tadao and Kazue Sawai, the pioneers of the contemporary Japanese music movement.
Today, the four young musicians are seen as leaders of a new generation Koto players. Each with their own style: improvised music, contemporary music, rock /pop and classical Japanese music .
Together they are a new sound of Koto which is called Radentai.
Radentai means literally "Mother of Pearl" and symbolizes the layers of the individual styles. |
