Sen Hea Ha has a long historical-background of traditional and contemporary Korean dance, which she has been studying since the age of four, with an emphasis on ritualistic and ceremonials dance forms.
As performer and choreographer, Sen Hea Ha has performed in a variety of local and international venues allover the world. She has also studied and work with Pina Bausch.
In 1998 she was invited to choreograph and dance in Solo, Central Java and at the Makassar Dance Festival. She was fascinated by the lively atmosphere, the daily social life and the world of arts in Java and decided to explore forms and dance techniques from various Indonesian ethnical backgrounds and have worked with several Javanese modern and classical artists.
In her new piece “Infinitâ” with classical dancers from Solo and on music from György Ligeti - works for piano etudes, she explores the infinite possibilities to melt Javanese classical movements and modern music. The result is astonishing and surprising.
A revisited Bedaya, the movements of the puppets (wayang), the contrast between the “gagah” and “alus” (strong and soft): she does not overlook anything in her journey to modernity.
“ …as if they have always been one: Ligeti's music and Javanese dance… Not only an unbelievable poetry arises from the complicity between dance and music, she (Sen Hea Ha) also moves the usually secret message of Asian dance to a European audience's conceivable and close nearness …” Tiroler Tageszeitung - 2007
